Chrome extension privacy policy

Last updated: 2026-11-08 (extension version 1.3)

This policy covers the TrendlyAI Chrome extension ("the extension"). It checks how easy a web page is for AI search tools to read. The short version: it runs in your browser and collects, sells or sends no personal or browsing data. The only things it keeps are a short history of your own checks, the website you mark as "Your site" and an optional "Prepared by" name, all stored in your browser and never sent anywhere.

1. What the extension reads

When you click the extension icon, it reads the page open in that tab: things like the title, meta tags, headings, structured data and visible text. It also requests the site's own /robots.txt and /llms.txt files and the page's HTML directly from that site.

If you click "Check more pages", it requests up to 10 more pages of the same site, found through the site's sitemap or its links, directly from that site. These requests go only to the website you are checking, without your cookies. The pages are read in your browser to score them and are not saved or sent anywhere.

2. What is stored in your browser

The extension uses Chrome's local extension storage. Nothing below leaves your browser or syncs to other devices, and uninstalling the extension deletes all of it.

  • Check history: after each check, the website address (host and path), the score, the date, how many checks passed, warned or failed, and the result of each check. No page text and nothing you typed on the page. It keeps the last 20 checks per website and up to 200 websites, deleting the oldest automatically. It powers "Last checked", the list of recent checks and the Compare view. Delete it any time with "Clear history".
  • Your site: if you tell the Compare view which website is yours, its host name (for example example.com). Change it any time with "Change". "Clear history" does not remove it.
  • "Prepared by" name: if you type one for the PDF report, so you don't have to type it again. Empty the field to remove it.
  • Report hand-off: when you click "Download report (PDF)", the results are passed to the report page under a one-time key, which is deleted as soon as the report opens. The PDF is made with Chrome's own print window. Nothing is uploaded.

The score shown on the toolbar icon belongs to that browser tab only and is cleared when the tab loads another page. The extension has no analytics, tracking, cookies, ads or remote code. When you copy a summary or a fix list, it goes to your clipboard only.

3. The check button

The "Does AI recommend this site?" button opens trendlyai.com in a new tab with the site's domain in the address (for example trendlyai.com/check?domain=example.com). From that point the website's main privacy policy applies. Nothing is sent if you don't click the button.

4. Permissions

The extension asks for three permissions. "activeTab" lets it read the current tab only when you click its icon. "scripting" lets it run the check inside that tab. "storage" keeps the check history, your site, the "Prepared by" name and the one-time report hand-off in your browser. A small background script clears the toolbar score when a tab loads a new page; it does not read the tab's address or content. The extension cannot read your other tabs or your browsing history, and it does not run on the sites you visit unless you click its icon.

5. Data we do not collect

We do not collect or sell personal information, browsing history, page content, passwords, payment details, location or anything you type. We do not share data with third parties because the extension does not send us any.

6. Changes

If the extension starts handling data differently, we will update this page and the date above before that version is released.
